OLDER ADULT PROGRAMS

Tolling for Education Foundation is committed to partnering with organizations that provide programs that serve to enrich the lives of the aging population. During Covid-19, the Foundation implemented, “Spreading Cheer in the Age of Covid” program. The Foundation donated Christmas flowers to several senior citizens facilities in Pontiac and Waterford. Beautiful Poinsettia flowers adorned the entrances, lunchrooms and staff’s desks at McDonald Towers, Regency of Waterford, Carriage Circle and Phoenix Place Apartments.  Seeing smiling faces of residents and staff was truly heartwarming. We look forward to continuing this program initiative during the 2022 Christmas season and beyond!

LITERACY PROGRAMS

“It takes a village!” Tolling is committed to supporting youth literacy within the city of Pontiac, and surrounding communities. The literacy initiative focuses on increasing access to high-quality reading materials for elementary students.

Michigan’s Legislature passed the “Read by Third Grade” law in 2016. The law requires 3rd Graders who score 1252 or below on the English proficiency test to repeat the third grade.

TfEF has implemented several program initiatives to improve youth literacy and combat student failure. Prior to Covid-19, a team of six retired teachers, members of the Foundation, tutored students at Owen Elementary school in Pontiac, MI. Since the pandemic, the organization has pivoted to support youth literacy through its virtual reading program initiative. During March Is Reading Month, the Foundation developed an anthology of expository and narrative stories for teachers to use in their classrooms to inspire students to enjoy the art of reading.  Through the Foundation’s Book Drive in 2021, books were donated to Peace Academy and Owen
